We love, because He first loved us (1 John 4:19)
How sweet are the words of Christ to the hearts of His believing people! Listen to the words; holy love … the love of God … He first loved us. What privilege we have, that we are loved of God.
He has predestined His people to be conformed into the image of His dear Son. What love is this? God the Father has glorified His people so that we should be holy and blameless before Him in love (Ephesians 1:4). What love is this? In agreement with the riches of His grace, we have presently the forgiveness of sins. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account (Romans 4:8). What love is this? God the Father has made known unto His people the mystery of His will. We know the hidden wisdom, now revealed, which God predestined before the ages to our glory (1 Corinthians 2:7). What love is this? God’s people have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. What love is this? Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. No condemnation or judgment against His people can be brought up in His courtroom. What love is this? See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God, and such we are (1 John 3:1). What love is this? Glorious, absolutely glorious, unto the praise of His glory!
From pulpit and printed page, radio to personal witness, the love of God is triumphed to both the children of God and the children of the devil. Yet, is there not something amiss? Brethren, any meditation on His love for us that does not motivate and stimulate a responding love to Him fails to scripturally edify. We love, because He first loved us. Our love is sourced in Christ. His love radiates to His people and His people respond by reflecting His love back to Him. In this He is well-pleased – when He sees Himself.
We live in a day when there must be a call to God’s professing people to love Christ. This is the heartbeat of our God, to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all your strength and body. Behold, and cultivate a heart, warm and fervent in love towards Christ. The Lord loves His people. Amen! His people love Christ Jesu. Amen, and Amen!
